The Annapolis County Adult Residential Centre is a licensed Home for Special Care which provides services to mentally challenged and mentally disabled adults. The A.R.C. is a modern community care facility which provides a stable, home-like living environment for 33 residents and also has 1 respite bed. In addition, the ARC offers a Day Program which currently serves 3 young adults with multiple challenges. In 1995 the A.R.C. was pleased to begin providing Meals on Wheels and now supplies meals for the Bridgetown and Lawrencetown areas.
The Annapolis County Adult Residential Centre also administers two satellite services - the Supervised Apartments and the Community Support Services Program. The Supervised Apartments consist of three apartments which accommodate eight adults. There is 24-hour staffing. Persons living at these apartments all have a day program and also must be willing to establish goals which staff will support them in achieving. All facets of the operation of the Supervised Apartments are designed to promote, encourage and facilitate the continued personal growth of each individual resident, so as to enhance his or her potential to live, work and socialize in the least restrictive, most integrative circumstances in the community. The Community Support Service Program provides support and/or assistance in identified areas of need on a regular basis to mentally challenged or mentally disabled clients who live in the community. It seeks to assist individuals to live as independently as possible while receiving required services. Each client's level of need is assessed in consultation with the client and an individual plan of service is developed. This program offers teaching and assistance are offered in areas such as:
