MISSION STATEMENT
"Beacon is a voluntary growth and recovery program offered to adults 18 years and above in Nova Scotia who have a serious and persistent mental illness. The Program assists individuals to make choices, to gain skills and to find a more satisfying life in the community with the greatest amount of independence possible."

WHO WE SERVE
The Beacon Unit serves adults 18 years and above living in Nova Scotia who meet some or all of the following:
- have been diagnosed with a major psychiatric illness (e.g. schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder)
- depend heavily on mental health and social systems
- have missed opportunities and experiences due to early onset of illness, stigma, treatment and treatment setting
- are alienated, isolated and live in poverty
- lack social networks
- lack skills
- are disempowered
- Poor response to traditional treatments
