The Golden Opportunities Vocational Rehabilitation Center is a vocational training facility for mentally challenged adults. The Workshop endeavours to prepare individuals to lead productive lives. Our goal is to develop their potential in a work environment so as to ideally facilitate their move toward employment in the work force.

The G.O.V.R.C. is operated by a community based Board of Directors which includes local citizens with expertise in various fields. The Workshop is partially funded by the N.S. Department of Community Services. Through sales of our products, community support and fund-raising, we raise the remainder of our operational expenses.

Woodworking

The Woodworking Department creates a variety of products in our shop. We are well known for our pallet & crate production.

We specialize in 2-Way and 4-Way pallets and can accommodate any shipping needs you may have.

We also supply a great number of survey stakes used in the Transportation Industry.

A recent shop expansion has made us one of the only Workshops in the area that are capable of moulding and spindle duplication.

Our specialty woods for the moulding production are kiln dried on site. We have our own kiln capable of drying 1000 bfm. Our materials are purchased from local suppliers.

To present, we have produced a number of antique reproductions of finish materials. This is done by custom grinding the necessary tools on site. These types include window and door trim, rosettes, chair rail, hand rail, spindles, shingle mould, crown moulding and T&G hardwood flooring.

We also sell plugs and screw hole buttons, in a variety of sizes, that are packaged in the contract department and distributed to local businesses.

Contracts

The Contract Department offers a wide variety of services:

• packaging of hardware items,
• ornaments,
• flyers,
• fund raising kits,
• summer savoury, etc.;
• assembling,
• collating & sorting;
• wreaths & bow making.

Our clients are capable of many skills. Their abilities far exceed that which is often expected. Their talents prove to be an asset in all of the contract work we take on. We are very willing and able workers and anxious to learn new tasks that will benefit not
only our Workshop, but the industries and people we work with.

The Treehouse

Our new 1500 square foot greenhouse is geothermally heated and cooled. We can use our facility year round to grow all types of bedding and vegetable plants. Our selections continue to expand each season as we plan to include a variety of bulbs, herbs and perennials. Let us start your garden, by customizing a selection just for you.
