Help Line Society Pictou County is a non-profit charitable organization in operation since 1983.

We are a member agency of the United Way of Pictou County. The rest of our funding comes from special events, churches, individuals and organizations.

Help Line receives NO
government funding.

Help Line provides:

  • Listening ear

  • Crisis Intervention

  • Answering service for
    • Pictou Food Bank
    • Robes and Fishes
    • Pictou County Literacy Council
    • Pictou County We care Society

  • Suicide intervention

WHO CALLS HELP LINE?

People of all ages, religions, and social backgrounds use Help Line.

Some examples:

A woman having trouble with her landlord needs to know where she can turn.

A man needing to get to hospital in Halifax wants to know what transportation is available.

A woman, fearing her son is contemplating suicide, calls for information on what she can do to help him work out his problems.

A man wants to know about services to help improve reading skills.

WE ALL NEED HELP

  • Maybe it's a phone number or the name of an agency.

  • Maybe it's someone to talk to

  • Maybe it's information on a service

  • Or, maybe, it's a problem you feel no one in the world can understand

WHO ANSWERS YOUR CALLS?

Help Line volunteers come from every age group, background, and walk of life.

They do not pretend to be experts.-They are ordinary people who are able to listen carefully and compassionately, with anonymity and confidentiality.

Volunteers offer guidance and help you, as the caller, to explore options in non-judgmental way. Talking with people about your problem can be the first step to resolving it.
