Queens Early Childhood Development Association

Queens Early Childhood Development Association (QECDA)

Who are we?

The Queens Early Childhood Development Association is a community-based organization which was founded in 1985 by a group of volunteers who were concerned about special needs children. The program is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors which receives its direction from standards and guidelines established by the Department of Community Services. Partial funding for the program comes from the Department of Community Services. The remainder of the budget must be raised locally including grants raised from the Region of Queens, Family and Children's Services and special fund-raising events.

What do we do?

Our program offers the following services to families: -- home visiting services with individualized programs designed to meet the developmental needs of each child -- a summer play group with an individually modified social, learning and recreational program -- a toy and resource lending library -- networking with families and professionals -- support during times of stress.

Who is this program for?

We offer services to families with a child, aged birth to school admittance, who is (a.) at risk for developmental delay due to an established diagnosis, biological risk or environmental risk. (b.) already presenting with a developmental delay. Our program is offered to any family residing in the county of Queens.

What do we hope to accomplish?

Our goal is:

  1. That families will become well informed about their child's developmental disorder, confident in their own ability to help him/her, committed to caring for him/her and to advocating for the most appropriate services for their child.

  2. That each child will develop to his/her fullest potential and will lead a productive and happy life in his/her family, community and school.
