Phone: (902) 864-5251 Who Are We?
The Sackville-Bedford Early Intervention Program was established in 1983. It is a non-profit organization, managed by an advisory board made up of volunteers from the community. The volunteers are interested in supporting families whose children are delayed in developing or have a handicapping condition.
The staff are knowledgeable in the area of child development and have experience working with families.
Whom Do We Serve?
Children between birth and three years of age who are developmentally delayed or at risk of delay, in one or more areas of their development.
Referrals to Early Intervention may come from parents, doctors, neighbors, community agencies, or concerned individuals as long as it is made with permission of the family.
What Do We Offer?
Early Intervention focuses on providing support, information and education to families during the early years.
Services include:
Home Visits - A home visitor will come to your home regularly and suggest play based activities as well as strategies that will help a child to develop to his full potential. Parents are actively involved in developing goals and carrying out the activities.
Resources - Books and other written materials on child development, handicapping conditions and parenting issues can be loaned.
Toy Lending Library - Parents who are involved in the Early Intervention are welcome to borrow toys to enhance and challenge their child's growth.
Tot Playgroup - Parents can leave their children with staff and volunteers at an arranged time. While parents enjoy a short break, children enjoy a small group experience.
Learning Together - Parents and children come together to share information, concerns, for socialization and to enhance play skills.
Support Services - To assist the family when professional consultation or community agencies are needed.
Why?
We believe that every child has the right to develop to his/her full potential. The early years are the most crucial in terms of learning and developing. If we can assist you, please feel free to contact us.
