| The Shelburne
County Early Childhood Development Association (SCECDA) is a
non-profit, charitable organization that provides children with special
needs (birth to five) and their families with early intervention
services.
EARLY INTERVENTION SERVICES:
- Home Visits
A home teacher
visits with the family on a regular basis to plan and carry out
development activities with the child.
- Community Outreach
The home
teacher may attend clinic appointments with the families. Important
information is also provided to the day care or school prior to
enrollment.
- Parent Discussion
Parents have
an opportunity to meet with other parents to provide support and share
information about the needs of their children.
- Toy Lending Library
A variety
of toys, to enhance and stimulate the child's development, can be
borrowed by families.
- Resource
Resource materials:
books, articles, directories are available to families on loan as well.
- Referral Service
Referrals can
be made for those children who may require the assistance of other
services or agencies. Early intervention assists with coordination of
all services involved.
- Program Referrals
Referrals can
be made to our program by parents, family doctors, health care
professionals, educators or concerned individuals. SCECDA is operated by a volunteer board.
Program funding is partially provided by the Department of Community
Services. The remaining program costs are provided through fundraising
activitites, various minicipal units and town councils as well as various
service/athletic groups, and individual donations.
The coordinator/home teacher is educated in the field of child
development and has experience in working with children who have special
needs and their families.
Early Intervention Services are
offered free of charge in Shelburne County!

program... early intervention has helped me understand the

"... you gave me the push I
needed... without this program I wouldn't have been able to do it
all. You knew the people and services that could help me and my
child." Parent |

children bring us laughter and the children bring us
tears; They string our joys like jewels bright, upon the
