What is Valley Child Development Association? Valley Child Development Association (VCDA) is a non-profit, charitable organization that provides early intervention services for children with special needs (birth to five) in Kings County and West Hants. VCDA offers a home-based program that involves working with children who have a diagnosis (i.e., cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, spina bifida, autistic spectrum disorder etc.) are undiagnosed (i.e, develomental delays), are born prematurely, or have delays resulting from environmental factors. The association is composed of a volunteer Board of Directors and trained professional staff. It sponsors an early intervention program that receives partial funding through the N.S. Department of Community Services with the balance raised through local fundraising activities. What Is Early Intervention? Early intervention provides specialized services and support to the families of young children with special needs. One goal of Early Intervention is to assist children in achieving their maximum potential and to reduce the impact of their challenges during the critical developmental years. Another is to offer information and resources to parents, enhancing their ability to provide a stimulating environment for their young child.
