Employment Outreach Clients

The Outreach Program provides services to people with a wide range of disabilities. Disabilities are physical, emotional, environmental, psychiatric, sensory or learning. Many disabilities are invisible.

Our Clients:
  • Are adults who identify themselves as having a disability
  • Are 17 years of age or older
  • Live in the area served by HRDC Windsor – most of Hants County
  • Apply for service in person or through referral from an appropriate agency
The Employment Outreach Centre:

  • Is a non-profit organization in partnership with Human Resources Canada and the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board, which offers employment-related assistance to persons with a disability

  • Is located with the Job Resource Centre at 233 Grey Street

  • Focuses on assessment, counseling, training, job search assistance and community development

  • Provides access to special services and/or modifications needed to accommodate an individual in the workforce, such as transportation, technical aids and wage subsidies

  • Provides follow-up to ensure a positive employer/employee relationship and successful integration into the workforce

  • Assists employers interested in employment equity by providing information, screening potential employees and facilitating training at the work-site.
Employer Services:

  • Outreach staff visits employers to determine their specific job requirements

  • Potential employees are assessed by the Outreach Centre for employment suitability, work preferences and skills

  • Outreach staff can explore possible wage subsidies available to offset costs during the training phase

  • Employer participates directly throughout the hiring and training process. Outreach staff can act as advocates and facilitators if necessary

  • Follow up support is provided for an initial period or until the employer no longer needs the support of the Outreach program for the client to maintain their employment

  • The Outreach Centre can help with re-training and/or upgrading skills.
